In this section of my website, I've posted the most interesting Do-It-Yourself projects we've completed in our house. This was a long process spanning ten years of our lives. However, good ideas, thorough planning, and consistent effort transformed our home into a unique and highly functional place where we love to spend time with family and friends
Kitchen remodeling was our the most challenging DIY project. I started with a rough design, determined by existing space and available sizes of cabinet fronts from the IKEA. The kitchen layout has been also changed. Therefore electricity, natural gas, water and sewage alteration were associated with this project. I started ~12 months project on July 2020...
Do you need more living space at your home? Changing houses is quite a big initiative. However, many homes have a basement, which is one of the most expensive and underused spaces. With a little creativity, some DIY skills, and a lot of time you can convert an unused basement into a cozy area to hang out with family and friends. Our boys had a great chance to demonstrate their painting skills... Everything started with a family room.
How to use a dark basement room, which never got any daylight? How to convert it to a space, where family likes to spend time together during long and cold winter evenings in Wisconsin? How to make this place attractive for growing kids and their friends? Home theater sounded great! It just required some time for design and more time for DIY construction....
Effective basement planning can transform your space into an additional guest bedroom. The challenge lies in making it a pleasant place to stay. Natural light is essential. Personally, the hardest part was digging a well for a large egress window.
With all the new functionality added to the basement, one part was missing—a bathroom. Due to its nature, this project was the smallest in size but the most complex to finish. It was completed in stages with various complexities: starting from wall framing, adding electrical, sewage, and water systems, and finally installing tiles. But we love the final result. :)
